Board game: the first printing omits a retaliation value from Chilling Breath. The official FAQ specifies the missing value and its elemental-consumption context.
Chilling Breath correction
When its elemental-consumption effect applies, Chilling Breath includes Retaliate 2 at Range 2. This is a production correction, not a permanent trait to add to every Chaos Demon attack.
Keep the correction with the ability card. A missing printed value is not an instruction to ignore the effect, and the range belongs to the retaliation rather than automatically changing a separate attack.
Attack planning
Editorial recommendation: check the active ability card and element state before entering retaliation range. Treat retaliation separately from the attack damage you expect to receive on the monster turn.
For Deathwalker, a shadow-origin attack has a special retaliation rule: the actual character must be within retaliation range. Do not generalize that exception to other characters.
Use items for defensive-item timing, scenario references for map-specific rules, and rules for shield and damage resolution.
Questions
Is Retaliate 2, Range 2 always active?
This correction concerns Chilling Breath on elemental consumption. It is not a replacement for reading the current monster ability card.
