Frosthaven icons and symbols
Updated
Board game: there are six elements: Fire, Ice, Air, Earth, Light and Dark. Wild and mixed symbols describe element choices or combinations; they are not extra elements.
Symbol meanings by rules category
Use the printed legend to match the artwork to these names. A crossed-out element is consumption, not removal of a permanent element from the game. You cannot consume an element you only infuse at the end of the same turn.
Push and Pull are forced-movement abilities; Pierce is an attack effect. None is a condition. Bless and Curse add temporary cards to the remaining modifier deck; a Curse card already in the deck is not an ongoing negative condition.
| Symbol / category | Meaning | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Six elements | Fire, Ice, Air, Earth, Light, Dark | Wild selects one of the six; it is not a seventh element |
| Element consumption | Consume a Strong or Waning element for the printed benefit | An infusion moves to Strong at the end of the infusing turn |
| Shield | Reduce damage from each incoming attack by the Shield value | Not protection against every source of direct damage |
| Pierce | Ignore the stated amount of the target's Shield for that attack | Does not itself deal damage or remove a condition |
| Ward | Halve the next damage suffered, rounded down, then remove Ward | Ward and Brittle cancel one another |
| Brittle | Double the next damage suffered, then remove Brittle | Healing also removes Brittle |
| Immobilize | Cannot perform Move abilities | Teleport is a different ability type |
| Disarm / Stun | Disarm blocks attacks; Stun blocks abilities | Do not confuse Immobilize with either condition |
| Push / Pull | Forced movement away from / toward the acting figure | These are abilities or added effects, not conditions |
Questions
What does the shield icon mean?
Shield reduces incoming attack damage by its value after attack modification and before Ward/Brittle. Pierce can ignore Shield for its attack. Direct damage that is not an attack is not reduced by Shield.
How many elements are there?
Six: Fire, Ice, Air, Earth, Light and Dark. Wild stands for any one of them, not all six; combination notation is not another element.
